Fantasy Landscape

This is my fantasy landscape. I do like the outcome of the edit however some parts within the image are quite small but it still looks in proportion. Originally the mushrooms were a lot bigger than they are in the final image this is because the outline of the mushroom look too copy and pasted when it is in a larger scale, so I reduced the size to make it less obvious I also blurred the edges of the mushrooms but it didn't make much difference. I think next time i will take more time and care when selecting the mushrooms, there fore it would look a lot neater and I will be able to have them on a large scale. As the other images were off the internet they appeared quite pixelated as they are a small format compared to the image I took which again meant the images had to be small. If i did this again then I would take pictures of people to add into the landscape, then the pictures would be better quality and then can be made bigger and still keep the quality. To add the girl sitting on the mushrooms i printed off the original image and then cut it put and scanned it back into the computer, I think this was a much easier and faster way to add an image, however the image scanned in came out very small meaning it was pixelated like the ones off the internet. This is a good thing as the images ended up being the same size giving the correct proportion to each other but they look extremely small on the landscape and the quality is lost. 

Adding colour

Open up photoshop

Then drag the image into the open program, then create a new layer

Then select the colours you want to add and zoom into the photo so the lines are much more accurate and smooth, which will make it look a lot more professional and neat.

This is the zoom tool.

When the colour has been applied, change the new layer to OVERLAY, this helps the colour blend in with the original image. 

Vignetting

Open up the image into photoshop.

Create a new layer

Draw a border by selecting the Paintbrush tool and selecting the colour you want for the border. Then press and hold shift to draw in a perfectly straight line.

Then blur the border so it blends in well with the photo. This is done by going on Filter- blur and choosing Gaussain Blur.

Here is the final image in colour.

I think this looks effective as the black border is a good contrast with the colourful background. I like the way the border blends in and looks natural within the photo almost making it framed.

I also changed the image to black and white.

I then changed the contrast within the black and white settings to make some areas appear brighter than others, I like this effect as it makes it look like snow and it also makes it appear in a negative efffect. 

Liquify

Start by opening up PHOTOSHOP.

Then click and drag the photo into photo shop to open it up.

To liquify an image go onto FILTER- LIQUIFY.

Adjust the brush to an appropriate scale for the image.

To enlarge a certain feature, you would use the BLOAT tool. which is locate on the left hand side of the window.

This is the bloat tool. I have used it on the eyes of this model to enhance how beautiful they are, it makes them appear fish like and too much bloating can ruin the natural beauty.

Only subtle adjustments are needed for the image to still look reasonably natural.

If you are not happy with the turn out of the bloating then you can change it back to normal by going onto the history. This is done by clicking WINDOWS- HISTORY.

To add a different backgroud simply drag the new photo onto a window and drag it to the same as the image you want in the foreground, adjust the size and click on OVERLAY. 

I actually really like the way this image turned out, i think the background completely changes the look of the photo and adds a variation on shade. It almost looks as though it should be used as a DVD or CD

cover. 

Loretta Lux creates similar sorts of images but in her case she enlarges the heads of children to create a unique photo as well as making them look extremely strange. I like how her photos have an almost drawn effect to them as the focusing is quite soft creating a delicate image making it look drawn or painted. 

I like the use of colour in this image as the outfit worn by the little girl is similar to the colours of the flowers creating the impression that she belongs within the wildlife. At first glance this picture looks normal due to how subtle the adjustments to the girls head shape is. 

 

All the children have expressionless faces which makes each photo dreary and almost haunting due to the fact it shows no emotion, almost as though the children are robots or dolls. I think this is effective as it draws the attention to the faces more therefore we then notice how the heads have been enlarged. Each  photo has been taken at the same angle with similar compositions but the activity of each child is different. This reflects the character of each child and shows how each are different even though they have been grouped together to create photographic art. 

Opening a file and Presenting images

FIRST, open up photoshop. 

Then click. FILE - NEW. Then a  box will appear like this: 

Change the paper size to A4 and the present to International Paper. 

Then click and drag the images onto the new page and resize the images to suit the amount you want to fit onto one page. To copy that size with a new photo click onto: EDIT -TRANSFORM-AGAIN, and that new image will become the same size as the previous one. 

Now to add a border. Click on EDIT- STROKE. 

Change the width to 20 and the colour to either- black, grey or white depending on the chosen background colour. 

Press okay and do this to each image so they have their own border. 

I kept my background white due to the fact the images' main focus is a dark pair of shoes, therefore I think it adds a good contrast and looks effective. 

Evaluation

I liked taking the images to create movement almost like a stop frame, but I think that the idea of my feet wasn't very strong, so if I did this again I would use a stronger subject to give a much better effect. It would also look a lot better with a plain background to replace the brick floor as this is too much detail, with a white background the subject will stand out a lot more making it much more obvious.

Changing a file name.

To change a file name double click on the name of the file, then type in the new name and press enter.

Creating a Contact sheet.

                                                    Firstly, open up a program called Bridge.

Click on OUTPUT, which is on the far right (as highlighted above) and change the TEMPLATE to 4*5 Contact sheet.

Then select the file in which the photos are from the Side bar on the left. Then click on the folder which the photos are in and they should open so you can view and select the images you want.

By highlighting the images they come up in the top part a bit bigger than the thumbnail images. The images within the top half are the ones that will be on the contact sheet, by deselecting them then they wont be one the contact sheet.

 Now SAVE the contact sheet. SAVE is located right at the bottom of the right sidebar in bridge. This box will come up and name the contact sheet and save it to somewhere you can easily find it. 

This is the completed contact sheet.

Adding images to the computer.

When the camera is plugged in and turned on, the program called iphoto will automatically upload, close this off as it is not the best to use for storing photos. Instead, open up image capture as this will be much faster and save more space on the computer. 

Introduction.

For this assignment there are 6 weeks in which the project should be completed. At the end of the 6 weeks a fantasy image should be created, by taking a normal image and editing in random objects or other images which made the photo look extremely odd.  A series of screen shots should be done throughout the process how it is done. I will also be looking at ways other photographers manipulate their photos.
    This assignment covers unit 34 and these are the aims;
- To understand how manipulation techniques are used.
- Be able to digitalise source materials
- Be able to originate work using image manipulation hardware and software.
- Be able to present own design outcomes
